What happens to food after we swallow it?
Did you know that there is a long process on where food goes after we eat it. Some of us may think after we swallow a bite the food goes down the esophagus which is made up of two layers of smooth muscle and straight into our stomach which is correct but theres more to it then just that. When the food enters the stomach, the stomach produces acid which helps kill bacteria and germs in that way bacteria and any sort of germs wont get into the food. Then the stomach makes an enzyme which releases a molecule which helps in vitamin B12. Then the stomach grinds so the food can break into small particles, after the small particles are made they pushed down to the small intestine. For the small intestine the food is processed by different chemicals designed for specific components of the meal. Sugars, fat and protein are digested by enzymes which are released by the pancreas. In the pancreas theres a tube which joins the small intestine so all the enzymes can travel into the small intestine when the food is there. There is also another tube which connects the liver/gallbladder to the small intestine. This tube allowed bile which helps mix food in the small intestine. Once all the proteins fats and carbohydrates are digested and nutrients are absorbed by the intestine then everything gets passed down to the blood stream which then travels to the liver. The livers duty is to process nutrients, vitamins as well as drugs.
1. I choose this topic because I liked the video I found.
2. It reaped because we have talked about this many times in class as well as watched a movie on it.
3. I have no questions.
